The speed of depressurization during rapid depressurization down to seawater pressure is one of the major problems in the cases of sea-borne nuclear reactor accidents causing the release of high-pressure radiations. To solve this problem, this paper reports that the internal pressure of the pressurizer container from a 20 MWe reactor could be released to the atmospheric pressure by depressurization with a contract rupturing device. Fast depressurization of the pressurizer container was successfully conducted in a pressurized test chamber under the similar conditions as the condition in a reactor container. The rupturing coefficient of the contract rupture device was 7.9 %. The pressure in the pressurized test chamber promptly decreased to the atmospheric pressure at the time when the internal pressure of the pressurizer container reached to the tension safety valve of the high-pressure reactor. The depressurization time was shorter than 1 min.
