Not only does Costco have great prices on name-brand booze, but they also have their very own line of wines (looking at you, Kirkland Chardonnay). Most of their liquors get amazing reviews, too, and for good reason. They are of high quality, and priced to move.
Drizly works with your local liquor stores to get you wine, beer, spirits, and even mixers, snacks, and party supplies quickly. Delivery's free in New York City and only $5 in other areas (though no matter where you are, you'll pay a $1.99 service fee to Drizly). Drizly service is available in more than 1,500 cities nationwide.
Although the Hills Plaza and North Atherton stores have already been open for business on the day of the Lord, W. Hamilton is by far the closest location to campus. If you really wanted to, you could walk from campus to the liquor store and purchase alcohol this Sunday and every Sunday in the foreseeable future.
The hours of operation are understandably fewer than every other day of the week, but from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. the world is your oyster. Maybe Saturdays are for the boys, but Sundays are now for the Penn Staters. Oh, and as part of the now-in-effect bipartisan bill, liquor stores can now open on holidays.
If you enjoy entertaining, a well-stocked home bar should be checked off your to-do list before having company over. Of course, people have their go-to drinks and many people may not be liquor drinkers or into very complex or lesser-known cocktails. Regardless, everyone deserves to feel at home when spending time with family or friends, and being given a familiar, favorite drink is a simple, but meaningful gesture that goes a long way toward making someone feel welcome.
The one thing about scotch is that quality bottles are expensive, mostly because they are imported from the United Kingdom. Trying scotches from different regions is a great way to diversify your liquor collection and discover new spirits and bottles, but if you are new to scotch and just want to have a bottle on your bar to cater to guests, a simple bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label is sure to keep any scotch drinker pleased. Plus, this blended scotch is best for mixing cocktails.
Tennessee whiskey really only means one thing, and that's Jack Daniels. Jack Daniel's is one of the most iconic bottles of liquor around, and although it may not be a favorite spirit of bartenders or cocktail enthusiasts, the chances someone you are entertaining likes it is bigger than you think.
Some people find their drink in college and stick with it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Flavored whiskey is definitely not something you'll need for any classic cocktail, but liquors like Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey are so popular, it's best you have a bottle handy. Other flavored whiskies like Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey and variations by established brands like Apple Jack or Jim Beam Honey are also popular.
You can have a wide variety of liquor, but if you like mixing cocktails or want to get into doing so, those bottles won't mean much without mixers. The most essential mixers for your home bar are vermouth and bitters.
If you have a taste for fine liquor, head for the many shelves of duty-free liquor when flying internationally. Connoisseurs of scotch, for example, will likely come away with a bottle or two at far cheaper prices than back at home.
The flat duty rate will apply to articles that are dutiable but that cannot be included in your personal exemption, even if you have not exceeded the exemption. For example, alcoholic beverages. If you return from Europe with $200 worth of purchases, including two liters of liquor, one liter will be duty-free under your returning resident personal allowance/exemption. The other will be dutiable at 3 percent, plus any Internal Revenue Tax (IRT) that is due.
When we price compared these items to similar products at a local discount liquor store, we found prices in the duty-free shop were in-line or a few dollars cheaper in most cases. Deals from the duty-free shop were especially good when buying multiple bottles.
To guide our research, we chose a sampling of 13 popular duty-free items spanning a range of categories from liquor to fragrances. Then we asked our team of reporters and editors to stop by airport duty-free shops across the world to collect the current prices in our representative market basket. We ignored limited-time sales and promotions and made sure to convert all foreign currencies to U.S. dollars. For items that weren't sold in the duty-free stores we visited, we used relative averages to impute a range of assumed selling prices.
We sampled quite a few European airports and saw an astounding variance in liquor prices. For instance, we got a great deal on alcohol in the duty-free store at Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD): A 1-liter bottle of Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 Tennessee Whiskey sold for $26.72. In London, the price for the exact same bottle of Jack Daniel's was a whopping 30% more. In addition to Madrid, we found the best deals on liquor in Kiev and Grand Cayman.
We called several local liquor stores in Atlanta and Miami to see how the prices compared to those at the airports. We found that liquor prices for the spirits we selected were around 30% to 40% higher than those in the airports.
Of all the U.S. airports we surveyed, Tampa's airport had the most expensive duty-free liquor. But we also found that liquor stores close to Tampa International had prices similar to those in the airport's expensive duty-free stores. Considering that you'd need to pay tax on purchases outside the airport, it may still make sense to purchase from duty free, even though the prices in Tampa are higher than those in other U.S. cities.
Imagine you're flying from Tokyo Narita (NRT) to London Heathrow (LHR) aboard ANA's recently reconfigured 77W (one can wish!). In Tokyo, you'll want to pick up liquor and tobacco, where it's 20% and a whopping 82% cheaper than in London, respectively. Then, when you land in London, head to the duty-free store to buy your cosmetics and fragrances, where they're 20% and 18% cheaper than they were in Tokyo.
A similar story holds true for liquor. If you're looking to pick up a 1-liter bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label, you'll save roughly $30 by buying it in Zurich, where the price was $256.04, compared to $282.50 in Paris.
Such astronomical price differences weren't limited to liquor. If you're looking to buy a 100-milliliter bottle of Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair, you'll pay $139.50 if you're flying, say, JetBlue from Terminal 5. Compare that to $108 if you're popping into the shop while flying LOT from Terminal 7.
Looking for cheap duty-free liquor Head to the Caribbean and select European airports. For duty-free cosmetics and fragrances, stock up in London, Madrid and Dubai. And if you're searching for cheap duty-free tobacco products, your wallet will fare well in Asia.
Tasting eerily like Crown Royal, the Kirkland Signature Blended Canadian Whisky is a hit with whisky fans. The Booze Blog admitted, \"It's actually very decent. It's smooth, it's slightly sweet and it's definitely a lot of bang for your liquor dollar. If your regular boozy jam is Crown and Coke, why not make it Kirkland and cola\"
One Costco liquor that falls flat is the Kirkland Signature Tequila Silver. In a taste test done by The Seattle Times, the expert tasters were overall not impressed with what they deemed this \"unnaturally sweet, odd\" tasting tequila. In short, both tasters agreed that it just doesn't have what you look for in a good tequila.
Deemed equally as inferior, if not worse than its silver counterpart, the Kirkland Signature Anejo Tequila was ranked dead last in The Seattle Times liquor taste test. In fact, one of the reviewers mistook it for cheap brandy because it didn't even taste like tequila.
