Parents need to know that S.M.A.R.T. Chase (aka The Shanghai Job in the UK) is a 2018 British-Chinese art heist action movie in which Orlando Bloom plays a down-on-his-luck security agent with a chance to redeem himself. There's a lot of action movie violence: The fighting is primarily done with fists and kicks, but there's also fighting with guns, bottles, and exploding cars. Vehicle chases occur throughout, with cars, motorcycles, and scooters. There's some blood with the violence, including a scene in which the good guys toss the cut-off thumb of one of the bad guys. Some consumerism occurs, along with drinking and cigar and cigarette smoking. Profanity includes "s--t" and "hell."
This doesn't really do much to distinguish itself from other action movies. There are plenty of fight scenes and vehicle chases and plot twists in S.M.A.R.T. Chase, but it never really emerges as anything new or different from movies with similar fight scenes and vehicle chases and plot twists. There's a forced theme of living for today, but it easily gets lost in the complications of the story. It's not a boring action movie, necessarily, but the lack of originality means that it doesn't leave a lasting impression.

I saw Costco announced a stock buyback program but looking at it closely it's unimpressive to say the least. The program authorizes $4 B worth of buybacks but that is through January 2027. The previous authorization was set to expire in April of this year and was adopted in 2019 with the same $4 B limit. Interestingly, the company only repurchased $1.4 B worth of shares under the program. Looking at the market cap for Costco of about $210 B, if the $4b was fully implemented that would only represent 1.9% of the overall shares. Also, considering the shares trade at about 30x 2024 earnings I believe repurchasing shares at this level would be a waste of capital.
The demand side of the equation in the housing market continues to show signs of weakness as pending home sales were 19.9% lower in the month of July compared to last year. We have discussed how the lack of supply has kept prices elevated, but pricing is starting to show some cracks as people simply can't afford these high home prices with higher mortgage rates. According to the National Association of Realtors, higher rates have pushed the typical mortgage payment up by 54% from a year ago. This has pushed housing affordability to its lowest level in 30 years. Assuming a 20% down payment, it currently requires 32.7% of the median household income to purchase the average home. This compares to about 20% of a household's median income before the pandemic. The 25-year average is 23.5%. The affordability appears to be starting to impact prices as in the month of July prices declined 0.77% compared to June. This was the first monthly decline in approximately 3 years and was the largest monthly drop since January 2011. Year over year price growth remained strong as prices were up 14.3% compared to July 2021. I believe we will continue to see double digit year over year gains as we conclude 2022, but as we lap these higher prices in 2023, I believe it is likely we will start to see year over year declines.
To set your chase pattern, simply adjust the 4 sliders on the dip switch to an up-on-1 position or a down-off-0 position. To locate the dip switch, open the front cover of the box. The dip switch has 4 sliders located in the bottom right corner inside the box. Anytime that you change the sequence you MUST unplug the controller box and then plug it back in with the new sequence code for the change to take effect. The following is a description of the chase patterns available. Each chase pattern can be selected to run on a 2 track chase or a 3 track chase mode.
Use the sequence list below to select the chase sequence you would like to run. When looking at the code setting, 1 represents up/on and 0 represents down/off. Be sure to select not only the pattern you want, but also the right pattern with the right number of tracks, 2 track mode or 3 track mode. Remember to un-plug and re-plug-in the controller box whenever you change the sequence. This Sequence Label is also printed on the top of the controller box.
This was a pleasant surprise, an action packed film. Stars Orlando Bloom as a courier fir works of art. The car chases were very very good, the script, cinematography could not be faulted. The only two things that bothered me was the overloud music and the odd subtitle when the cast spoke in Chinese. Apart from that I did enjoy this and I would watch this again.
