Plot summary
Ramprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma is a qualified chartered accountant and singer who lives with his sister Ratna. He finds a job at Urmila Traders, a firm owned by Bhavani Shankar, a man of traditional values who hates modern attire and sports. He also dislikes men without mustaches, whom he considers characterless.
Ramprasad pretends to be a simple and honest man who shares Shankar's views and wears a kurta and a fake mustache to impress him. He gets hired and becomes Shankar's favorite employee. However, he also loves sports and secretly goes to watch a hockey match by lying that his mother is ill. Shankar, who also enjoys sports in private, attends the same match and sees Ramprasad there.
The next day, Ramprasad lies that it was his clean-shaven twin brother Lakshmanprasad aka Lucky who was at the match, not him. Shankar believes him and asks Lucky to teach music to his daughter Urmila, who falls in love with him. Ramprasad shaves his mustache and starts living a double life as Lucky, a modern and fun-loving man.
Things get complicated when Shankar wants to meet Ramprasad's mother and he hires a socialite named Kamala Srivastava to play the role. Kamala also has to lie that she has a twin sister when Shankar recognizes her at a party. Meanwhile, Shankar decides to get Urmila married to Ramprasad instead of Lucky, whom he thinks is more suitable for her.
Ramprasad reveals the truth to Urmila and decides to end his charade of Lucky. They tell Shankar that Lucky ran away, but Shankar notices Ramprasad's fake mustache and assumes that Lucky killed and impersonated Ramprasad to marry his daughter. He then chases Ramprasad and Urmila in his car, getting arrested in the process.
